IT'S TIME FOR HEALING Holistic Sanctuary

6404 Telegraph Rd, Alexandria, VA 22303

We create a safe sacred space for our clients to facilitate their own healing process, and we understand that each person is on their own unique path.

1. How does a herbal vaginal steam work?

When dried herbs are placed in the hot water, the volatile oils that contain medicinal properties are released. A womb spa session works by applying gentle heat, as well as moisture that caries these volatile oils, to the exterior tissues of the vagina (the tissue referred to as the vulva). The warmth and moisture increases circulation to the labia, causing it to swell and expose the inner labial mucus membranes. These tissues are very porous and absorbent, and the bloodstream picks up the volatile oils carrying them into the inner reproductive system, including the uterus. Thus, the herbal womb spa increases circulation, thins mucus and revitalizes the entire system, allowing it to shed unnecessary membranes and build-up. The result is a healthier womb, more pleasant cycle and a more aligned woman.

3. How sanitary is vaginal steaming?

We have very strict policies about sanitation.  Our sanitation products are lab tested with a 99.9% rating of effectiveness, able to kill microorganisms on contact. Effective against pseudomonas, salmonella, and staphylococcus according to specific EPA protocol and antimicrobial that inhibits growth of bacteria, fungi, and viruses on surfaces and the body. Environmentally friendly ingredients designed to preserve human health in hospitals, nursing homes, veterinary clinics, schools, motels, and hotels.

4.  How often should I do a vaginal steam?

It varies. Each woman is different. I normally recommend the first 3 sessions be done every 3-4 weeks and the following maintenance sessions, once per month. Many women are utilizing preventive care steaming 4 to 5 times a year; Women who suffer from pain, bloating, or exhaustion during menstruation can steam monthly within a few days or weeks before their cycle begins. Many women start to see physical results after their 2nd session of vaginal steaming. Those with fertility challenges should steam more frequent for a minimum of 90 days, especially during pre-ovulation, to make sure the tissue is moist and the cervical fluids are clear and copious. However, every woman’s healing needs vary and there is no risk with having more frequent sessions. You could have daily vaginal steaming sessions and it would not create an adverse reaction in the body.

5.  How private is each session?

This is a very intimate service yet can be shared with your closest butterfly girlfriends during a ladies night in, retreat, bridal shower, rest & relaxation day, or just because. You are fully sealed in the sauna cape and the only part of your body exposed is your neck and feet. There is no underwear worn during the vaginal steaming service. While many women prefer to be naked under the sauna cape, some only remove their underwear under the cape; others prefer to wear a long skirt under the cape, the degree of modesty is never compromised and it’s totally your decision.  This is a full body detox, the room is heated to a gentle temperature which induce sweat.
; I recommend a change of dry clothing if you intend to keep any garments on under your cape.

6.  What herbs are used in the vaginal steaming sessions?

Herbs commonly used in vaginal steaming are included in our combination blends: Burdock leaf, Yarrow, Red Clover, Red Raspberry, Dandelion and many more. Our specific lists of herbal blends are not currently available at this time while I conduct a comparison in a placebo-controlled trial to accept medical insurance. If there is a concern about an allergy to a specific herb it should be discussed and submitted on your client intake form prior to your scheduled appointment.

7.   Who SHOULD NOT do a vaginal steam?

Women who are pregnant, or think they might be, should NOT do vaginal steaming.  Many of the herbs used can alter hormone levels and cause contractions of the uterus. However after delivery, the vaginal steam bath could be performed as early as the first day or within the next seven days.  Although minimum contraindications have been reported women who have an Intrauterine Device (IUD) should aid on the side of caution.  If open sores, blisters or a fever are present you are encouraged not to steam until the symptoms have subsided. Women also should not steam while menstruating it ’s the body’s natural cleansing process that I do not interfere with.  I do not steam men; I’ve found excessive warming the testicles actually inhibits sperm production.

8. FDA approved?

No. Unfortunately many holistic remedies are not FDA approved because they are not mainstream forms of medical treatment. In addition, there has not been enough data collected and presented for the FDA to approve this form of holistic medicine. I’m here to answer your questions, but not able to offer medical advice.  My knowledge as a Certified Holistic Health Consultant, ADP, (American Drugless Practitioner) Certified Birth Doula, Certified Yoga Instructor, Master Herbalist and Certified Thai Massage Practitioner, are all holistic modalities that incorporate certified training, research, personal experiences and conversations, but I’m not qualified to give medical advice. Please seek medical advice from a trained and certified, naturopath or physician who understands traditional remedies. Most importantly, please follow your intuition as you make decisions about your body.

We look forward to being of service to you beautiful.
